Jackson Jobe, RHP, OK (HS, 2021)

Summation:

The last outing I saw Jobe in-person he threw a perfect game and struck out every opposing batter in a run-rule shortened 5 inning game and had the best stuff from an amateur SP that I have seen.

Jobe maintains the velocity on his FB and reached backed for his top end velo when he needed it. He works with a four-seamer that had plus carry and life through the zone. As expected, the control of the heater is far ahead of the command but with the life he has on the heater, the offering will play anywhere in the zone.

The headliner of his Jobe’s arsenal is his slider that consistently has a 3000+ spin rate along with 3/4 shape and late break. It’s an offering he flashed some feel for landing in the zone and I’m convinced will be a true bat-missing pitch at the ML level in the near future.

He throws a spike CB that shows deep 11/5 shape along with solid tightness and bite. Had a tendency to get on the side of it which turned the shape slurvey but it maintained its teeth.

Rounding out his arsenal is a changeup that he rarely needed to utilize at the HS level but the few times he did in my looks it was promising. Does a nice job of maintaining his FB arm speed and the offering shows late bottom action. Not much horizontal action but it’ll be a pitch that plays well off his heater.

There’s a long track record of HS pitchers not meeting expectations enough to warrant taking a chance on them with one of the first few picks in the draft. My opinion is that Jobe will be an outlier to that track record and be an arm at the top of nearly any teams starting rotation in the future.
